Aluminium Composite
A Versatile and Durable Substrate for Signage Manufacture
ACM, or aluminium composite material, is a popular choice for signage manufacture due to its durability, versatility, and affordability. It is made up of two thin aluminium skins that are bonded to a polyethylene core, resulting in a lightweight and strong panel.
One of the key benefits of ACM is its versatility. Available in several stock colours, it can be easily cut, shaped, and welded to meet the specific needs of a signage project. It can be printed directly using various techniques such as screen printing or UV printing, making it suitable for a wide range of applications including printed hoarding, flat panel signs, and sign trays. In an industry where there can be so much waste, black core ACM (non-Fire-Retardant) is 100% recyclable. This alone can make it endearing to the consumer, but when you add into the mix the endless ways in which the product can be used and developed it is a win win situation!
In an industry where there can be so much waste, ACM, is environmentally friendly and the common non-Fire-Retardant offering (recognisable by it black plastic core) is 100% recyclable. This alone can make it endearing to the consumer, but when you add into the mix the endless ways in which the product can be used and developed it is a win win situation!
ACM is manufactured using two painted thin coil coated aluminium sheets and bonded to a Polyethylene core. This creates a high strength and low weight board. It is very durable and withstands the elements extremely well.
The Benefits
ACM is an economical choice compared to other materials such as steel or acrylic. It is easy to work with and can be installed quickly, resulting in cost savings from manufacture to installation.
ACM is also environmentally friendly, with the common non-fire-retardant version (identified by its black plastic core) being 100% recyclable. Fire-retardant ACM (identified by its white core) is also available and is commonly used in building construction and signage.
This composite material is available in several different thickness and grades. There is a hoarding grade with a very thin aluminium coating (0.1mm) and then premium grades with thicker aluminium skin (0.3mm) which are suitable for fabrication.
Overall, ACM is a reliable and cost-effective substrate choice for signage. Its versatility, durability, and environmental benefits make it the go-to sign making substrate!
