Bespoke Industrial Signage Bowl Central, Fareham

The Brief

At Butler, we take great pride in delivering exceptional signage projects for our clients. In this case study, we showcase our successful collaboration with Rocare and Bowl Central, a fast-growing entertainment chain specialising in bowling, cocktail bars, lounges, and arcades.

The project focused on creating inviting and fun signage for Bowl Central’s new location in Fareham. Through innovative design, meticulous manufacturing, and expert installation, Butler brought the frontage of the building to life, leaving a lasting impression on visitors.

“Butler skilfully crafted two canopies that not only met the client’s requirements but also added to the overall industrial feel of the space.”

Industrial Design

Rocare, acting on behalf of Bowl Central, approached Butler with the need for captivating signage and bespoke fabrication for their new Fareham venue.

The goal was to transform the frontage of the building, making it visually appealing and aligning with Bowl Central’s energetic brand identity.

Working with the elevation drawings provided by the architects, Butler’s talented designers meticulously interpreted and translated them into detailed signage plans. The design incorporated various elements, including illuminated sign trays, projecting sign trays, LED neon signs, and built-up letters.

Additionally, bespoke canopies were required to complement the overall aesthetic. Butler’s designers used the architects’ and civil engineers’ drawings and calculations to produce comprehensive plans, even creating full 3D models to aid fabrication.

Canopy Manufacture

The unique challenge presented by this brief was the canopies.

Butler skilfully crafted two canopies that not only met the client’s requirements but also added to the overall industrial feel of the space. Let’s delve into the key elements and techniques involved in their manufacture.

Industrial Aesthetic:

The two canopies were designed to different sizes and colours to suit the entrances below, and tailored to complement the overall concept of the entertainment venue. The industrial look was a focal point, reflecting the brand’s identity and creating a visually appealing atmosphere.

Framework:

To ensure durability, structural integrity and an industrial finish, Butler utilised heavy-duty steel frames as the foundation of the canopies. This choice provided robust support, withstanding various weather conditions and ensuring long-term reliability.

Finishing & Cladding:

Butler applied shipping container cladding to the underside of the canopies. This cladding not only added an intriguing visual element but also reinforced the overall theme, creating a cohesive and distinctive look.

Lighting was essential due to the late opening hours. Neon tube lights were chosen, serving as eye-catching features, further contributing to the inviting and fun atmosphere of the venue.

For the canopy roofs, Butler employed a combination of materials and techniques to ensure durability and functionality. The construction included marine-grade ply, a membrane layer, and black polycarbonate sheeting.

Installation

Butler’s commitment to excellence extended to the installation phase of the project. The signage was transported to the site using a reliable HGV transport system.

To ensure the safety of workers and the public, a site safety screen was erected, demonstrating Butler’s adherence to safe contractor practices.

Resin anchor bolts were utilised for the canopies, meticulously set and load-tested to guarantee stability. The installation process involved the use of a crane to securely position the canopies.

Once installed, all wiring was meticulously connected and thoroughly tested to ensure proper illumination and functionality.
