Reading Development Hoarding
Transforming a Neglected Space into a Vibrant Canvas
Butler were contracted by Reading Town Council and Station Road Dev Co Ltd to breathe new life into a derelict building located just outside the bustling Reading train station.
Our mission was to create an engaging run of printed hoarding that would capture the attention of the high footfall in the area and showcase the city’s artistic offerings.
“The captivating printed hoarding not only catches the attention of passersby but also effectively showcases the city's artistic offerings and culture.”
Survey & Planning
When we received the project brief, we immediately recognised the significance of the task at hand. To ensure a successful outcome, we embarked on a thorough survey and consultation phase.
Our team conducted a meticulous survey of the site, taking precise measurements of the sloped front elevation. We carefully examined the existing cladding, identifying areas that required removal and replacement. Additionally, we determined that timber bracing was necessary to create a level surface for the hoarding panels.
To align with our client’s vision, we produced detailed drawings and site plans, seeking approval before proceeding.
Material Specification and Manufacture
Drawing upon our expertise and dedication to quality, we selected 3mm aluminium composite as the ideal material for the hoarding panels.
This choice offered numerous advantages for the project, including UV stability. The lightweight nature of the material facilitated ease of installation, while its durability showcased our commitment to delivering signage solutions that last.
The direct-to-substrate printing technique ensured a high-quality digital print that would withstand the test of time.
To protect against potential graffiti, we finished each panel with a gloss anti-graffiti laminate, further enhancing their look and resilience.
Installation
With meticulous planning and a focus on safety, our installation process commenced. We prioritised the well-being of our team and the public, erecting a site safety screen around the work area. This ensured a secure environment throughout the project.
To prepare the surface, we removed any warped timber from the fascia, as well as the existing timber kickers, ensuring a solid foundation. Creating a level surface was essential, so we utilised OSB and marine-grade plywood sheets. Strengthening weak areas, we strategically added timber framing.
With the groundwork complete, it was time to install the aluminium composite hoarding panels. Adding a touch of finesse, we applied colour matched timber headers and kickers as eye-catching trim elements.
The Result
The transformation of this derelict building’s fascia was truly astounding. Our team’s dedication to their craft and our commitment to delivering excellence had successfully turned a neglected space into a vibrant canvas.
The captivating printed hoarding not only catches the attention of passersby but also effectively showcases the city’s artistic offerings and culture. This is a project celebrated by the local community, reinforcing our reputation as a reliable and innovative signage partner.
At Butler, we take immense pride in exceeding our clients’ expectations and delivering exceptional signage projects.
Our work in transforming this derelict building into a captivating advertisement for Reading’s art scene is a testament to our expertise, unwavering client focus, and commitment to going above and beyond.
