The Portland Building, Brighton
The Brief
The Portland Building in Brighton is a newly constructed office space, sought to establish a modern and welcoming environment for professional companies.
Butler, renowned for its innovative signage solutions, was approached by Corramore, the construction company behind The Portland Building, to design, manufacture, and install a comprehensive signage package.
“Halo illumination elevated the sign's visibility, particularly in lower light conditions such as winter evenings or overcast days.”
Illuminated External Signage
Butler’s expertise in signage design and manufacturing extended to the creation of an impressive exterior building sign for The Portland Building.
This sign served as a prominent focal point, capturing the attention of visitors and passersby alike. Crafted with precision, the sign featured built-up stainless steel letters, meticulously powder-coated with a custom pigment to match the building’s aesthetic.
The addition of warm white halo illumination elevated the sign’s visibility, particularly in lower light conditions such as winter evenings or overcast days.
By incorporating durable materials and industry-leading manufacturing techniques, Butler ensured that the exterior building sign was not only visually captivating but also capable of withstanding the elements, maintaining its pristine appearance for years to come.
In addition to aesthetic appeal, the exterior sign played a crucial role in brand recognition and identity – communicating professionalism, reliability, and modernity, instilling confidence in tenants and visitors alike.
Welcoming Reception Signage
Butler provided a range of signage solutions to enhance the reception area’s welcoming ambiance.
This included a moss wall sign, featuring an illuminated Portland Building logo mounted on spacers onto a moss wall, adding a unique organic touch to the interior space.
Additionally, a reception sign, consisting of an illuminated Portland Building logo combined with flat-cut letters made from MDF, greeted visitors.
A directory sign with shelves and slide-in company names facilitated easy identification of company locations on each floor.
Comprehensive Wayfinding Scheme
Butler implemented a comprehensive wayfinding system throughout The Portland Building to ensure intuitive navigation for occupants.
This included stairwell wayfinding, featuring large wall vinyl numbers positioned at key locations on all floors. Featuring a colour matched print and matt lamination, these graphics enhance safety and ease of movement within the building.
Additionally, more general wayfinding solutions were provided, consisting of aluminium sign panels mounted on acrylic bases.
These panels ranged from lift signs to bike store and toilet signs, ensuring clear and cohesive navigation throughout the space. To ensure accessibility, the panels feature a raised print and additional braille.
The Result
The signage solutions seamlessly integrated with The Portland Building’s contemporary architecture, enhancing its ambiance and functionality.
Professional companies seeking office space in Brighton are welcomed by sleek, minimalistic signage that reflects the modernity of the space.
