Enhancing Campus Branding with Impactful Signage
Butler, a trusted signage company renowned for their client-focused approach, recently had the privilege of producing impressive signage for the new Behavioural & Social Sciences wing at Woking College.
The project presented an opportunity to showcase Butler’s expertise in delivering impactful signage solutions. This case study highlights the design, consultation, manufacturing process, and successful installation, resulting in striking brand signage.

Design & Consultation: Meticulous Planning
Woking College approached Butler, along with their architects, seeking impressive signage to complement their modern new build. The signage needed to be highly visible and impactful, even from across the car park. With this clear objective in mind, Butler embarked on a collaborative journey with the college to bring their vision to life.
To ensure accurate execution, Butler conducted a comprehensive survey of the site utilising laser scanning.
Signage locations were carefully determined, with the college’s logo planned for the front of the building and a wing identifier for the side elevation.
Butler’s design proposal involved a creative approach to highlight the college’s logo, which consisted of layered chevrons forming a distinctive “W.” By mounting the chevrons on studs at different offsets, Butler brought the logo to life and achieved a visually striking effect. Additionally, mirror-finished stainless steel letters were proposed for the wing identifier, harmonising the two elevations seamlessly.
Photographic mockups and colour swatches were produced to illustrate size, location, and establish Pantone references, ensuring alignment with the college’s vision. The signage package was then presented to Woking College for approval.
Expert Manufacture & Flawless Execution
Butler’s skilled craftsmen set to work manufacturing the signage elements. The college’s logo was meticulously constructed using layered aluminium with Pantone-matched vinyl, expertly mounted on studs to create depth and dimension.
The wing identifier was created using polished stainless steel letters, precision laser-cut to achieve the desired aesthetic. By employing these materials and techniques, Butler ensured durability, quality, and a consistent look across multiple elevations.
With great care and attention to detail, Butler’s team commenced the installation process. A Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) was employed to safely work at height while minimising any potential damage to the new render. Pre-agreed fixings were used to ensure the integrity of the building’s exterior.
The college’s logo, due to its large scale, was securely mounted using face fixings, while the polished stainless steel letters were elegantly affixed using brass locators. Through their meticulous approach, Butler ensured that the installation process was seamless, resulting in a flawless display.

The carefully executed design, precision manufacturing, and seamless installation resulted in a consistent and impactful look across multiple elevations.
